2 Paintings In Progress - Raven Moon 8x6 Oil & Portrait Study From a Portraiture Class -

On Friday I was fighting off a head cold. And it reflected my mood in the this little Night Raven piece. Not really sure where the idea came from. But it is different then what I usually paint thats for sure.

The second painting is a from a portraiture class I am taking from Linda Infante Lyons at the Anchorage Museum. I have been struggling with this one. Will take it to class for critique.

ADDENDUM: I got some wonderful suggestions from my class teacher. I made some dramatic changes to the portrait. Will finish it this weekend, and post a picture for you to compare with this one I took before my class.

Emerald Princess

Emerald Princess 14 x 18 Oil on RayMar Panel - I think this one is finished, not positive yet, so will let it sit for a few days and then decide if I need to redo anything.  The actual painting is not quite as yellow as the digital image, I couldn't find my digital camera this morning so borrowed my wife's and I am not very familiar with it.  Decided to do this fantasy portrait, I have not done any fantasy work in a while so was fun to let the imagination have free reign  again.

Girl With The Pearl Earring - Scarlet Johannsen 16 x 20 Oil on Canvas

I decided to take a Portrait Painting Class at the Anchorage Museum to learn skin tones: colors, values and figure painting techniques.  We have a gifted teacher, Linda Infante Lyons.   This is my first portrait from the class so far.  It is a portrait of actress Scarlet Johanssen from the movie Girl With The Pearl Earring.   

I hope to attempt a full figure painting in the future, and am hoping this will be the stepping stone to that goal.
