Kenai Painting Step 5

Kenai Painting Step 5 - block in base of foreground

Okay I laid in the underwater foreground, basically pushing paint around until I got what I wanted. I will TONE it down later. Letting it dry so I can paint over it, will bring in the shadows of the tall trees on the left and then add all the sky colors over top of the water. I will end up painting out a lot of what I did today, but I wanted to put it in, so I could have it there when i paint over it and not worry about going back and trying to add the dead fall under the water. So far this has been a fun painting. After the water is done I will be adding some foreground foliage, no sure how much yet.

Time Out On the River (private collection) - Acrylic on Canvas
The salmon are starting to run in the Kenai River, the sun is up till about 11:30PM, aahh the best time of the year to live in Alaska. The summers make the winters bearable. And better yet I have a week off from work to enjoy it. The weather is suppose to be sunny and warm. Right now, it is windy and blustery. Going to go with a artist friend tomorrow and take his boat out for a test run, we plan to paint the sunset (so will be a late night) from his boat. Then wednesday - saturday have a artworkshop to attend, put on by the Alaska Artists Guild featuring Arizona Artist Ron Rencher. Turns out Ron is a college buddy of one of our Artists in the Guild. Small world. I hope everyone has a great week and takes time to stop and let the sun shine on them for a few minutes each day.

Treasured Times

Kenai Keys Painting - Oil on Canvas 11x14 - Over the weekend, my Dad (88), Mom (85) and I went to their Cabin in the Kenai Keys on the Kenai River. We were joined by my brother also. As you can see from the picture the weather was not to bad. And the fishing was great. But the most amazing thing, is that my brother and I have parents in such good health we can still get out and do these advents with them. We realize that we are very lucky and that it is very rare, so we treasure these times all together. I pray we have many more yet to come. BTW the fish in the boat is a Silver Salmon my dad caught this morning.
