Using the same Pallet of Colors from One painting to the Other

I started with the lower painting  6x8 Oil "Homage to the Sunset" first.  This painting is actually a reworking of a painting I did at a plein air outing I did with the Alaska Plein Air Painters last summer.  That painting was a very loose exploration into a tonalist style.  I liked what I had, but knew it needed refining,  So on a whim I decided the other day to redo it and make the refining it needed.  Also decided to add the 2 Swans.  I am very pleased how this turned out.

The upper painting came from a pencil sketch I had done a number of years ago.  I had a lot of paint still on my pallet left over from the other painting, so using the same paints I created this piece a 6x9 oil "One Last Cast".  A note of interest is that originally the pencil sketch was the mirror image of the painting, thought it would read better to the eye going left to right, so with my photo editing software I scanned my sketch and created a mirror image to work off of.  Both painting will be on my website for purchase next week.

Stage 3 Painting on Easel at the moment

Stage 3 - I have added more color to the snow. Finished the Alders in the Background and added small bushes in front of the Alders. Added some dead grass sticking through the low areas of the snow. Just put a light wash of color on the wolves. The wolves are my next area to finish, them and the tracks they are following and creating. When I am satisfied with the Wolves, I will work the foreground up. Any critiques and suggestions are welcome.

FLATTOP MOUNTAIN PROGRESS

Flat Top Mountain Progress - These are actually in reverse order, the one on the bottom is the first one. As you can see from the last post I blocked in the base colors of blue and yellow. On the image on the top I have started to add the detail. I work top to bottom. The trees and snow work will be coming next after I finish the mountains. Taking a 6 x 9 and blowing it up to a 20 x 30 has presented some challanges. ie: the center of interest will need to be more apparent. In the smaller painting it was not as necessary to have a focal point. This painting will demand a focal point and I am processing that in my mind right now.
The other consideration I am pondering is whether to add people out enjoying a sunny winter day in Chugach State Park. I could put x-country skiers out, or maybe some wildlife. Any ideas you may have feel free to suggest. This is the early stages of the painting, so I can play and make changes freely still.
