Emotional Ups & Downs

Wow what a Roller Coaster week- We had the Plein Air Art Show all last weekend, despite the weather we had a good turn out and raised a higher amount of money for the Clare House then the last 3 years.
  My Mom and Dad ( 85 & 90 ) came.

Then on Monday afternoon Dad called me at work, Mom had fallen and broke her hip.  Tuesday she had hip surgery and is in the hospital now.
Friday I took some paintings down to  Stephan Fine Art Gallery in the Capt Cook Hotel in Anchorage Alaska.   Found out I had recently sold some more paintings.  Always a good thing.

Yesterday Donna and I went and visited Mom in the Hospital.  Found out she had tried to stand up on her own with out calling for help and of course fell again.  This going to be a rough ordeal for Mom and Dad.  Chris my brother and I are trying to help as much as possible.   But there is only so much we can do.  Painting has been put on hold for a while until there is a little more time.

Glad Mom made it to our show though that will be a special memory for me.

Flat Top Mountain painting progression

Chugach Park Flat Top Mountaing 20x30 Oil on Canvas - Well finally got back to working on this painting.  As you can see from the last post 2 weeks ago, I first blocked in the base colors, they worked up the mountain and its detail, then added the blocked in trees in the midground and foreground.  Went back and finished off the trees in the midground.  Then the trees in the foreground and added brush and shadows.   Finally went back to the midground area and added a lighter highlight to the snow.  Will let this sit for 2 weeks before I decide if I am done or not.  All comments are appreciated.

Liberty Falls

Liberty Falls - Alaska - 14x18 - Acrylic on Canvas - This painting is available for sale just contact me jacobsonart@gci.net. We are now in full swing with the election season, oh the joy of all the phone calls from the Pollsters, Campaigns seeking your support and your donations. We had 14 calls in the last 2 days. If they put that much effort into solving some of our countries problems I think they would be much more rewarded. Enough of this, onto more interesting topics.

This painting comes from stumbling across a old photograph (yes the old glossy paper thing) that I took in 1992, when my kids and I took a trip from Anchorage to Chitna Alaska. What really struck me was the dramatic lighting. It was a bright day, light could be seen up behind the falls and in the forground. But back in the heart of the falls was all dark, the waters power came surging forward and around the main rock which is right in the center of the torrent. A single small tree somehow has found a way to grow and survive with little or no soil on the rock. I never anticipated that this would become a painting, the picture was to be a reminder of our trip. But looking at the photo after so many years with a fresh set of eyes, it struck me again, all over with it beauty and power. Sooo.... now it is my latest painting, this is painted with the New Golden "Open" Acrylics. They live up to their billing and really work like oils, very impressed.
